Ash Green Organic Foods is not just a retailer of exceedingly fresh organic fruit and vegetables but also a producer of organic apples from our orchards in Kent . 16 Acres of apple orchards produce some of the finest varieties of apples which grow in the UK .

The whole orchard is comprised of large half-standard size trees planted between 40 & 60 years ago and are a blend of the following varieties: Discovery, Grenadier, Laxton Fortune, Laxton Superb, Worcester Tidyman, Worcester Permain, Spartan, Russet, Coxes, Crispin, Pearl , James Greaves, Winter Permain, Bramley, Howgate Wonder

Seasonal Harvests
The season starts in mid August and carries through to mid October. The first 8 varieties listed above are picked perfectly ripe and a day or two prior to sale. The latter half of the list are picked and stored and run on until as late as Christmas – some years as late as March.

History
The orchard has been in the care of Ash Green Organics foods for 7 years. Prior to our attainment of the orchard it had been derelict and unmanaged for 12 long years. It had become very overgrown and un-pruned; clearly the trees were suffering. Over the years, and with the expert care provided, the orchard has been transformed into a thriving place. The orchards are cared for in such way as to produce the highest quality organic fruit – due to the age and variety of the trees within the orchard the textures and flavours have become far superior to any other apples available in the market place. Many of the varieties which are grown in our orchards are uncommon in today's modern apple production. We have introduced a program of Homeopathy for the orchard in consultation with a leading Homeopathic clinic. Predatory insects including Lace Wings and Lady Birds have been introduced to reduce the damage caused by other insects.
